03 — Guide
How to generate a better AI prompt step by step
Start with the goal and audience
Instead of 'write a blog post about SEO', write: 'Write a 1,200-word guide for small-business owners with no technical background who want more local customers.'
Add context and constraints
Paste the relevant material (product facts, tone examples, data) and state the limits: length, reading level, words to avoid, required sections. Models can't use what they aren't given.
Specify the output format
Ask for a table, JSON with given keys, bullet points or headings. For images, describe subject, setting, style, lighting, composition and aspect ratio.
Let the model improve it
Paste the draft into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini with: 'Improve this prompt and ask me up to 5 questions that would make the result better.' Answer the questions, then run the final prompt.
Iterate and save what works
Change one thing at a time and compare the outputs. Keep a library of prompts that work well, with placeholders for the parts that change, such as {product} or {audience}.
04 — FAQ
Common questions
Do prompt generators really improve AI output?
Yes, mostly by adding what was missing: context, constraints, examples and output format. A clear, specific prompt typically matters more than which generator you use. Asking the model itself to clarify and rewrite is free and very effective.
Should I buy prompts from marketplaces?
Rarely. Generic paid prompts seldom beat a free prompt written with your real context. Paid marketplaces such as PromptBase make most sense for specific image styles in Midjourney.
What is the best prompt structure?
A reliable template is: Role ('You are a senior copywriter…'), Context (background and materials), Task (what to do, step by step), Constraints (length, tone, things to avoid), Format (exact output structure) and Examples (one good sample, if you have one).
What are the best alternatives if I need advanced features?
For production apps, use evaluation tools such as Anthropic's Console evaluations, OpenAI Evals or Promptfoo (open source) to test prompts against many inputs. For teams, use shared prompt libraries in Notion or a prompt management tool such as PromptLayer or Langfuse (both have free tiers).
