How to build a free resume step by step
Collect the target job's keywords
Paste 2–3 target job descriptions into a document and highlight repeated hard skills, tools and titles (for example 'SQL', 'stakeholder management', 'Figma'). ATS ranking and recruiter searches match on these exact terms.
Choose a single-column, ATS-safe template
In Reactive Resume or FlowCV, pick a template with standard headings (Experience, Education, Skills), real text instead of icons, and no text inside images. Keep fonts at 10–12 pt and margins at about 1.5–2.5 cm.
Write achievement bullets with numbers
Use the pattern: action verb + what you did + measurable result, for example 'Cut checkout load time 38% by lazy-loading images, lifting conversion 6%'. Write 3–5 bullets per role, keep it to one page for under 10 years of experience, and remove generic soft-skill lists.
Export a PDF and test it
Export a text-based PDF, not a scanned image. Select all and paste into a plain text editor. If the text comes out scrambled or in the wrong order, an ATS will misread it too. Name the file Firstname-Lastname-Resume.pdf.
