03 — Guide
How to calculate Amazon FBA profit step by step
Measure and weigh the packaged product
FBA fees depend on size tier (small standard, large standard, large bulky) and shipping weight, which is the greater of the unit weight and dimensional weight (L×W×H ÷ 139). A few millimetres can push a product into a more expensive tier.
Look up the fulfillment fee
Use Amazon's Revenue Calculator or the FBA fee table for your size tier, then enter the fee above. Fees are revised every year, usually in January.
Add every cost per unit
Include product cost, freight and duties per unit, prep and labelling, monthly storage (higher from October to December), and PPC spend per unit sold (total ad spend ÷ units sold). PPC often takes 10–25% of the price at launch.
Check margin, ROI and break-even
Common rules of thumb are at least 25–30% net margin and 100% ROI on product cost to survive price wars and returns. The break-even price shows how far you can discount before you lose money.
Stress-test the numbers
Rerun the calculation with a 15% lower price and 20% higher ad cost. If the product loses money in that scenario, renegotiate costs or change the packaging before you order inventory.
04 — FAQ
Common questions
How much does Amazon take per FBA sale?
Usually 15% referral fee plus a fulfillment fee of about $3–7 for standard-size items, plus storage. On a $30 product, Amazon's fees typically total $8–11, around 30–35% of the price, before your ad spend.
What is a good profit margin on Amazon FBA?
Many sellers aim for 25–30% net margin after all fees and ads, and 100% or more ROI on product cost. Margins below 15% leave little room for returns, PPC price increases or competitors cutting prices.
Why isn't the FBA fee calculated automatically here?
The fee depends on the exact size tier, weight, category and the current year's rate card, all of which change. Copying the exact fee from Amazon's Revenue Calculator is more accurate than an estimate built into this tool. Everything else is calculated for you.
Is this Amazon FBA calculator free?
Yes. It is free, has no ads and needs no seller account. It runs in your browser, so your cost data is never uploaded.
